Fishing & snow report
SKi and snow report:
Meadowlark Ski Lodge and Antelope Butte Ski Area are both 100% open for the season. Condtions are good and the snow has been holding up well despite the warm temperatures in the lower elevations. There has been light snowfall overall so still use caution as you enter more difficult terrains.
Pole Creek and Cutler have both been packed and groomed, but early season conditions do persist so use caution. Willow has 6-8” of snow and has been skiing well for most Nordic skiers.
Lake Desmet:
Lake DeSmet does not have any ice at this point. Not a lot of anglers are fishing right now. We’ll need some substantial cold weather before we can Ice Fish.
Prairie Lakes and Ponds:
(Including Healy Reservoir, and Muddy Guard Reservoirs)
Muddy Guard Reservoirs have a very thin layer of ice, and is dangerous to try. We’ll need some substantial cold weather before it is safe.
Healy Reservoir has a very thin layer of ice, and is dangerous to try. We’ll need some substantial cold weather before it is safe.
Prairie Streams:
(Including Clear Creek, Crazy Woman Creek, Rock Creek and Piney Creek)
Some lower elevation streams are open and fishable. The water is low and very cold. Small nymphs may be successful for fly fishermen. Small spinners or worms may be effective in deeper sections.
Mountain Streams:
(Including Clear Creek, Crazy Woman Creek, Rock Creek, Piney Creek and Tensleep Creek and their tributaries)
Bighorn mountain streams are mostly frozen over for the season.
Mountain Lakes:
(Including Tie Hack Reservoir, Meadowlark Lake, and Cloud Peak Wilderness Lakes)
Bighorn Mountain lakes are mostly frozen and fishable. There is about 8-10” of ice at Tie-Hack and Meadowlark. Fishermen are having luck with small jigs tipped with a mealworm, or with powerbait added.
